April Pinterest Trends: What to Pin in April

We’re approaching the end of March, and you know what that means. It’s time to talk about April Pinterest trends. April is just around the corner and we want to help you maximize your pinning based on what people will be searching for during April.

Getting Into the Smart Feed

As most of you probably know, Pinterest operates using a smart feed. The whole goal of switching from the chronological feed to the smart feed was to create a custom curated feed for each individual, based on their searches, their boards and their saves/repins. This allows the user to have a custom feed that is geared specifically to their interests.

When it comes to Pinterest marketing, the critical question to ask yourself is: How do I get into my ideal user’s smart feed?Click To Tweet

You need to know the things your ideal user is searching for, what their buying habits are, as well as what the trends are.

The reason that we talk about what to pin each month is that there’s certain content that most people are searching for. And as it relates to events or holidays, you want to get that content circulating in the smart feed at least 45 days before the actual holiday. That gives Pinterest time to assign keywords and funnel the content to where it should go.

What To Pin In April

This time of year is leading up to a significant moment for a lot of people: graduation.

Whether it’s Kindergarten, 3rd grade, high school or college, you likely know somebody who is graduating this spring. Some content ideas to seize upon include:

  • create a graduation Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • provide a template for a graduation speech
  • share recipes for the best desserts to serve at a graduation party.

Weddings are starting to happen every weekend once April comes around. Do you have an Etsy shop that makes wedding invitations? Do you have decorating ideas for receptions? Now is the best time to post those types of things.

People are traveling for spring break and even starting to gear up for summer vacation. Travel bloggers can capitalize on the travel them by showcasing attractions in your geographical area or offering helpful travel tips. Pro tip: Make sure you include a location in relevant board descriptions.

What to Promote

During April, it’s smart to run promoted pins on Easter, gardening, Passover, and even Earth Day content. Organic and healthy recipes are also big.

If you aren’t sure about how to run a promoted pin campaign, I have anEtsy shop that covers everything you need to know. It’s not super hard to run a campaign, it just needs some testing.

When you run a promoted pin campaign, be thinking about your goal. This is something I’ve talked about a lot on the podcast, most recently in my last episode about Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). Nail down your KPI’s and decide on a specific goal. Do you want clicks to your website or do you want email subscribers?

Content Planning Ideas

At the beginning of every month, I go through my podcast spreadsheet and decide what I’m going to talk about and what I’m going to create that’s going to really set me up for the future.

I’m a planner, so I like to plan out at least a month ahead. I’m always looking at the next month an trying to figure out what our plan is to help our audience.

So if you are a seasonal planner, think about what you can plan for May and June. Think about weddings, summer, barbecues, 4th of July, Mother’s and Father’s Day (or anything you think your specific audience might be interested in).

If you’re struggling, write a really awesome gift guide. Gift guides never go out of style and they’re helpful to people throughout the year (NOT just the holiday season). And don’t forget that you can make good affiliate income from gift guide posts.

Tip of the Month

My tip for this month is to adjust your pinning schedule. In Tailwind, you can look at your weekly publishing and add 1-2 recommended pinning slots per day.

For example, if you’re a food blogger, you should know that Sundays are the highest traffic day for your content because lots of people are meal planning. Adding a few time slots on Sunday can be a really good thing.

Consider looking at your Tailwind schedule and matching it up with your Google Analytics. Take slots away from lower traffic days and add it to the days with higher traffic.

Monthly Action Tip

Look at the most popular pins on your account this month. If any of them are not your content, try to create something similar. Maybe even better. Take advantage of that success. But keep in mind that you don’t want to copy people’s work, you want to be inspired by it.

You have the opportunity to see what’s happening on your profile in your Pinterest analytics. Look at your clicks over the last 30 days. You will see the same things being repinned or saved over and over again.

Maybe you have content that just needs updating. Maybe you’ll see someone else’s content going crazy and you can create similar content. Do it!

Create a spreadsheet to keep track of content topics that get pinned over and over again. Go directly to your people and ask them what you should create more of. That’s always a great place to start.
